I love this place. The service is awesome. We have gotten the same server every time, and he is great, so great that we started requesting him... I highly recommend you do the same... I'm not sure how to spell his name but phonetically, its Dorjay. My family loves to substitute orders, add items, take out items, and create our own little meal. Dorjay takes the time to understand exactly what we want, and makes sure the kitchen can take care of our needs before he promises something he can't deliver. For example, last night, I wanted the chicken lemonato... but instead of having the breaded/sauteed chicken, I just wanted a plain grilled chicken breast with the lemonato sauce. I wanted no rice, just green beans and peas. Perfect. Same with my family's meals as well. When my dad asked what type of pinot noir would be better, Dorjay didn't immediately upsell the most expensive glass, he was honest and said the less expensive option had a better taste and flavor. He was right. It was great. The restaurant is clean, the food comes out perfectly cooked, any substitutions made to our dishes are always done, we have never had to send anything back.

Well we were at the NOVI Home & Garden show today and had hoped to hit The Cheesecake Factory, but a 3 hour wait at 3pm seemed ridiculous , so this was on my list as well. 1st we called ahead, and Mary the bartender answered several key questions. They YELP app helped us get there. Arrived at 4pm and the place has a stunning presence, plus the inside is rich & classic. The host sat us & made the usual small talk, and we just had to tell him how great the place looked, he was shocked that we had never been here or to the original in greektown . He sat us in a gorgeous-comfy booth. We truly came just for a bowl of Real Chicken -Lemon-Rice Soup, but also split a Greek salad. Tina , our server welcomed us & took our order. We each ordered a bowl of LRS $4.50 and split the Greek Salad $8.50 I have never ever seen my bride so happy over a GREAT BOWL of SOUP! She remarked "This is what I'm talking about" ..she was delighted! I also enjoyed it, as it was served & stayed piping hot . Nice thick base, fresh lemony taste..nice amount of shredded chicken & rice The Greek Salad was just okay... why? 1) Tomatoes out of season 2) only one olive 3) only 2 peppers 4) 1//4 of a chopped cucumber not to the point of taking away a star...just a buyer beware if your expecting a flamboyany wel stocked salad for $8.50

This place is undergoing a transition. It is no longer Hella's. It doesn't seem fully operational at the moment which makes me wonder why they are trying to serve food right now. I'll give it a try after the reboot, but I'm very disappointed in the take out I just got. They would be better off keeping the kitchen closed in this transition rather than spoiling the reputation that was developed as Hella's.

Who knew Bloomfield had such an authentic Greek restaurant in our backyard. This day was a light one by trying their Greek salad. It's an excellent classic Greek salad with all the usually suspects. Of course the highlight is their delicious dressing, fresh ingredients, and grilled bread. I really look forward to returning and trying so many more authentic dishes. Who needs to travel all the way to Greek Town.

I ordered carry out sides. The peas as expected were ok for frozen reheated cooked foods but the green beans and rice tasted like something just out of a can. Yuck. Just so awful. You'd think it would be better than at a coney but no. It would have been cheaper if I ordered a full meal. It wasn't busy either and they screwed up the order - yeah I'll be back. Not!!!

I was not expecting much beyond the usual and was really surprised by the quality of the food that came out of the kitchen. Everything was fresh and delicious. The reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is that the atmosphere is a little stodgy. That said, I have eaten lamb chops in many very high priced steak houses, and these were hands down the best. Nice sized cuts, salty crust, slightly charred for real flavor. Very nice, especially at the price.

I have dined in once before and today I picked up carry out. Both the food and the service were excellent both times. The portions of the greek lasagna (Pastitsio) and sides (peas, rice, AND green beans with that delicious red greek tomato sauce) are enough for two with leftovers. Included is hard crusted soft bread -also delicious. Reasonably priced, especially if sharing one meal. I live nearby and would like to go here more often.

I passed this place a few times driving to work. So I suggested it to my boyfriend and we tried it out. We went for lunch on a weekday so it was very quiet. It's a lot fancier inside than I would have guessed from the outside. We were seated immediately and the waitress brought bread. I didn't eat any so I can't say how it was. I did notice the table was sticky and gross so I asked them to wash it again. I ordered the lunch trio- spanakopita, pastitsio, and moussaka. My boyfriend ordered the lamb and rice. Holy moly! It as a ton of food. My boyfriend eats like crazy and he only finished half of his. I ate the rest for dinner later. The lamb was fall off the bone tender and there was so much of it for only $12. Crazy. Mine was also enormous. Everything was really tasty, especially the moussaka. I didn't care for the side of peas and beans that came with it, they tasted straight from the can. Overall, I'd definitely come back. I thought the food was awesome especially for the price.

I've been there twice, now, and I'm new to the place. I've also not been massively exposed to Greek cuisine in my life, but I've eaten Greek food several times over my lifetime, and I fully expect a Greek place to be able to do wonders with lamb. My first experience was a late lunch, and I ate at the bar (my choice) as I wanted to watch the matinee Tigers game. Service was quite good, no complaints about that. The only thing that I had an issue with was the potatoes that came with my lamb-and-potatoes lunch entree that I'd ordered: they were dried out and no good. *Not a problem*. I mentioned it to my server, and they wisely asked if I wanted to keep the lamb (I did) while they prepared me some new ones. I told them that I wasn't married to the potatoes, and that the rice pilaf would be just fine, which they happily provided. The lamb itself was wonderful. Tender, flavorful, *very* nicely braised. I didn't have any problem polishing that bad boy off, and most (if not all) of the rice pilaf. If only I'd known better what to order (I got educated by a fan), I'd have ordered the lamb-and-green beans. That's what I had the second time I went. Which brings me to the second time, which was even better. I went with my girlfriend and surprised her by inviting her aunt and uncle to join us, without telling her. Her aunt was a *massive* fan of New Hellas when it was down in Greektown, and when I told her it was reborn in Farmington Hills, she was in like Flynn. She's the one who tipped me off to the wonderful green beans they serve alongside the lamb. Of the starches on offer, this one's the star. Forget the potatoes and rice pilaf, and get the green beans. You're welcome. Everybody liked what they had, with me getting lamb-and-green beans, my girlfriend getting lamb Rosa Marina, her uncle getting a beef kebob and Greek salad, and her aunt getting two appetizers: saganaki (which *no one* was to touch but her!) and the cold octopus. She loved them both (pronounced the food as good as it had always been downtown), though I wasn't crazy about the octopus (that could probably be said of any cold octopus appetizer from anywhere, though) that I tried. The Greek salad dressing that came with her uncle's Greek salad, though? I could have mainlined that stuff, it was so good. Service that Saturday night by George was great. He used to work at the old location, and he really knew his craft. Knew his menu, made great recommendations, talked me into a very nice (and shareable) cake dessert, and generally made the night great. While my lamb came out not warm enough, it was the only miscue of the night, and easily (and quickly) correctable. George was highly embarrassed by this, but honestly: it wasn't a big deal, and when it came back out, it was marvelous, both the lamb and the green beans. George is a very good ambassador for his employer, and he only works Saturday nights, apparently. Ask for him...I will be, in the future. And that's what it comes down to, isn't it: I'll be going back in the future. I think the room is decent and fits the theme, but more importantly, the service and (most importantly) the food is very nicely done. It's honestly hard to do lamb well, and I grew up eating lamb in my household, so I'm aware of what constitutes quality, well-prepared lamb. Not just the lamb, but the other food as well, is quality, and the kitchen is able to provide it, and the servers are doing a good job, too. It makes me wish I'd gone to New Hellas when they existed in Greektown. On a side, more personal note: the "OPA!" presentation with the saganaki was *not* intrusive or annoying as it has been at places I've been to in Greektown. Rather, it was well done, not ridiculous, and my girlfriend rather liked the heat blast from the flame. A nice, not overdone, touch.

It is ok, but I have had better food. I don't know what it is maybe it is the location. I mean there was nothing really wrong but I did not eat thinking "wow this is great". I was not reminded of my time in Greece or even my meals in Chicago's Greektown area. Best regards, Tony

Lamb and rice pilaf was very good, chicken meatballs (really patties) very very dry, grape leaves were pretty good. Bread was stale, table sticky, drinks took forever to get. Place was not crowded. Meals took a long time to arrive also.

I ordered lemon rice soup and gyros appetizer as a carry-out last night. The soup was thick and extremely lemony. It tasted as though it had been cooking a long time and had reduced to a soup concentrate. Also, the bread they provided with the soup was so stale it was inedible. The gyros were also poor. They were very salty and just somewhat over cooked. This is the perils of picking up carry-out, they can pass on to you whatever is leftover in the kitchen because they know you aren't opening the bag until you get home. When we have eaten in the restaurant it has been fairly good and the soup is what kept me going back because it wasn't thick and like jello. Unfortunately, I won't be eating in there again if this is how they handle the carry-out business.

Could possibly be the worst service I've ever had. It was 5:30 on a Wednesday, we were seated eventually, 4 servers and maybe 8 tables. It was so painful I almost left but decided to wait it out. After sitting at our table for literally 15 minutes watch servers wait on every table but ours finally a server asked if we had been helped and I politely said not yet. Food was ok but the experience was so bad I could never go back.

Just left lunch today and it was a horrible and Nasty. The food was good, service was very very bad. The waitress was clueless, very dumb. She was carrying other ppl dirty plates and sat it on our table when she want to pour water in the cups for us. The table was sticky. The bathroom towel dispenser did not work. I went there 2 times before and it was good. Today experience will make me think twice before I go there again.

Great food and fast service, but prices are a bit high. Not too bad once you see the quantity, but overall. We will come back for sure.

Although I have yet to try the new location's food, due to the fact that I haven't had any better lamb & rice since the original in Greektown I feel this place needs five stars! For a restaurant to have survived over 100 years in Detroit, obviously they are doing something right. I am so glad to hear that they have found a new place, it's been a hard few years without true authentic Greek cuisine! I will write a proper review once I go there!

Slow service. Restaurant 90 % empty and it took kitchen 90 minutes for simple dinner!!!

We have gone here a few times, and I will echo the previous reviews that the place is noisy and the service is slow. Very very slow. The Greek salad is good, but not anything that I would go out of my way to have there. The gyros are also good. The bread is fantastic. Overall it's not anything spectacular. We will go across Northwestern to George's instead.

  • Mambru P.

Not recommended at this time. Their famous lamb chops were overcooked and very! very, very salty. The gyros platter was sent back because it was inedible and leathery. No sense having it done over. Service was just OK, and the only good thing was they did not charge for the gyros platter. We left a good tip so they will miss us because we will not go back.

Opa! I'm overjoyed that New Hellas has come back! I was worried their "business-y" location would deter some dinner diners, but apparently they've been doing great. I guess that goes with a stellar reputation and great Detroit history. I think in the few months this has been opened, I've lunched here 7 or 8 times. Two of us always split a greek salad (so many steps above most greek salads) and moussaka or another entree. This, while indulgent, is an awesome lunch and comes to about $7 or $8 a person, which is a good deal for a lunch out. I can't say nice enough things about the servers either. Everything came out quickly and our waiters and waitresses have been so welcoming and helpful. The owner and Chef has even come out a few times to greet us (and brought us treats!) Loving having this place in my daytime neck of the woods!

We ordered 2 drinks, a saganaki, chicken lemanato with a side salad, and a santorini platter and it came out to be @$80. I would be more satisfied if the portions and prices were less. I expect that the platter will have more food and a higher price, but the chicken entree was rather large and the taste wasn't worth 17.50. They should offer half portions for maybe 5 bucks less. The side salad is also HUGE. They charge 4.50 to add it to an entree, so just get one and share it between 2 people. The service was great though. I would go back for a cocktail, saganaki and a salad, but for a meal, most likely not.

Been here twice and their food is amazing. Their Greek salad is AWESOME! Everything seemed to be really fresh and they give you generous portions.

Thought that the 2nd time around we would have had a better experience. Was I ever wrong. Ordered the Beef Shish Kabob , and received a Beef Stir-Fry. I broke my cardinal rule and had to send it back. about 10 to 15 minutes later I received my Beef Shish Kabob, but the meat didnt look right. I ordered it Medium, Which should have had at least some pink to the center of the meat. What I received was Beef Jerky grey/dark brown tough meat. I showed the waitress and she said she would let the chef know. I think what happened is they washed the beef off from the stir-fry plate and recooked the same meat over and served it. Never had a manager come to the table, and to my surprise the "Chef" never came out either. On the bright side I was at least offered a take home box ( Yea, seriously ) and I had to pay for what is now my Dog's dinner. One would think, on Valentines day they would have at least sent someone to maybe make something right. I guess they call it the "New Hellas" because they can't compare themselves to the once great Hellas in GreekTown. So sad.

Was a huge fan of New Hellas in Greektown. This is so not the same thing! Totally sad that the bread was different, the roast chicken was seasoned different and did not have those amazing roast potatoes. The grape leaves were good but the rice was so awful I didn't eat it and trust me I love rice and carbs! Even the calimari was different! Most of all the clientele in the WB were rude! I felt horrible for the waitstaff! I won't be back, I wish they had kept the old recipes! So sad! This was my favorite restaurant in Greektown. I miss the good old days.

Overall rating really 4.75. Service - for us, prompt, cordial, unobtrusive- we beat the crowd by arriving 520p. The bechamel sauce w/ Greek trio (pastisio, moussaka, etc) is truly exquisite. (Skip the calamari - a bit tough and salty). Decent prices too - eg, perch dinner $10 under a nearby competitor. Handsome decor, easy park/access. We're hooked!

In town and wanted some good Greek food, went at 1pm on a Wednesday and there was not many people here and the service was horrible, waited to get seated then waited 30 minutes with kids to get a simple Greek salad....NEVER come back to this place..

I was extremely disappointed in the experience that I had trying to be seated last Saturday night. I was told to expect a 15 -20 minute wait and after one hour was told they had no idea when we would would actually be seated. I cannot recommend the dining experience to others.

Very noisey restaurant. Service was awful. We were sitting next a table of Greek people and they were fawning all over them and not paying attention to the other guests. They received their order promptly and it was right the first time. Our waitress couldn't remember what we ordered and then she forgot to bring it out. She didn't keep our glasses filled with water and we had to keep asking for everything that we needed, but that table of Greek people got what they wanted right away. They are also overpriced. Will be going back to Big Tommy's in Novi from now on. Great service and the prices are right on the money there.

Decent food, not outstanding on any level. Ordered a fish that was covered in a gelatinous lemon piccata sauce.Regret not going with a lamb dish. Good service.

Went for an early dinner with people from work. the place as has a nice, warm feeling and the decor is pleasant. i think this would be a great date place :). I had the lamb chops as a main course, and it was melt in your mouth tender and so good I could have eaten two orders! It took awhile to cook, but they advised us of that. I didn't try anyone else's food, but everyone said they were really happy with their meal. The appetizers were good, too. (I have forgotten the names of them, but one was a yoghurt type dip and one was a garlic based dip. Both excellent)! The wine choices were good and the prices seemed fair. They have a full bar. The waiter was very good. He was efficient with out being pushy and was very patient with a colleague who is a complainer and can be quite imperious. Omg. The best part of the meal was the dessert. I had the baklava. This was, HANDS DOWN, the best I have ever had and the portion was generous. I will be back!

I had a business meeting there and the service was horrible we walked in the door we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated that's true you're seated I noticed dining room with understaffed and also noticed that the dining room was kind of dirty for Friday night very very weird and then went to the bathroom begin to stick to the floor as I walked into restroom that only makes you think what does the kitchen look like we then decided to have assortment of appetizers and they came out absolutely cold the calamari was way overcooked and is so chewy I felt I was eating rubber the dips for the Greek antipasto it was disgusting. The saganaki was flamaed at our table and the waitress almost cut urself and Fire then head to proceed back to the kitchen to put the fire out did not have enough lemons to put out fire. It was very comical after we were having your dinner it took the server 30 minutes to fill our water. Best of that is not good there a fennec Greek cuisine its a joke you're better off going to a Coney Island and eating frozen euros before you eat there

The food was average - but the service was horrible. Our waiter first brought us the wrong wine and then a wrong main course. We had order a lamb and potato dish and he brought a lemon chicken dish. He never offered to change it not did he ever do anything with the bill.

Newly opened in Farmington Hills after being in Greektown for over 100 years. The restaurant is attractive with lots of dark wood and requisite Greek decor but the real star is the food. They menu is extensive with Greek traditional dishes and choices for those who want something else. We started with the Greek sausage flamed table side . It was flavorful and not at all greasy. We both chose lamb dishes - one braised in a tomato and herb sauce and one braised in olive oil, wine and herbs. Both were delicious . The meat was so tender if fell off the bone. Side dishes are not an after thought they were definitely an added plus. Roasted potatoes and rice pilaf above the usual fare and the peas are not to be missed. There is a full bar, children's menu and some outdoor seating. Can't wait to return so many interesting choices remain.

I decided to take some out of town coworkers to New Hellas after seeing the Yelp reviews and wasn't disappointed. We sampled several appetizers and had a variety of dishes ordered to our table and everyone was quite happy with their meals. The restaurant itself is very nice and tidy, and the staff was friendly and helpful. In addition to tasty food, the portions are huge. I will definitely come back again!
